He is Still Good

Hey Y'all<3

Man, life has had some serious shake ups and it's been easy to fall into the mindset of frustration and anger with God. I've been flooded with an instantaneous mindset switch to cries of “God how could You?”, “God why would You allow this?”, “ God, I feel abandoned. Do You still hear me?”, “ God, I just think You don’t care about me anymore”. One day, as I was sitting in bed shouting all of those questions, I heard so clearly, “In the valley, you are so quick to doubt Me and so quick to believe that I have forgotten and abandoned you. You are quick to forget My character.” And I was checked. Immediately. God has a way of being so gentle, yet firm, when He comes in and has to remind us to shake out what the devil is trying to make us believe. When I heard that it immediately made me think--If we just sit here and praise God during the highs and the blessings, and then get mad when we don’t get what we want….that sounds more like a “genie in a bottle” mindset than “God, my Father, the one I trust with it all”. God does not promise that our lives will be free from trials and tribulations when we follow Him. We actually are told that we WILL have them (John 16:33), but we are told about the who can overcome it all, character of our Father, and that nothing is too big for Him. Here are a few verses to remind you of the heart of the God we serve and remind you that though you will go through these trials, you wont be overtaken.

  • "God is not man, that he should lie, or a son of man, that he should change his mind. Has he said, and will he not do it? Or has he spoken, and will he not fulfill it?"- Numbers 23:19

  • "When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze." - Isaiah 43:2

  • "If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you."- John 15:7

  • "Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows." - James 1:17

  • "The LORD is gracious and righteous; our God is full of compassion."- Psalm 116:5

  • "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever."- Hebrews 13:8

I recently went to a house worship night and it was just what I needed. Worship can change the trajectory of so much. In these moments, it's our war cry to the enemy that no matter what, God still reigns and gets the highest praise. It shows the enemy that he hasn't won. It shows the enemy that our hearts still trust in God, our loving Father. The lyrics I started this post with is from the song, "Story I’ll Tell” By Maverick City Music and Naomi Raine. Man, is that my praise through the valley seasons….How HE was my portion when there wasn’t enough and how I surely will testify how day by day, God worked and pulled me back up the mountain and WON. That is my prayer for you too. If you are in the midst of a deep valley and it feels like there is no light, no hope, and you feel forgotten; remember the character of the God you serve and that as His word says in John 16, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” There is no valley you will encounter that He can’t change around.

So I ask that you join me as I worship God in the rough waters because I know He is still with us there and He still deserves to be praised from low in the valley just like we do when it's an abundance of blessings. Put on the songs that remind you of WHO God is. Speak those lyrics. Read the verses that remind you of His character and speak verses of victory over yourself. Rejoice in hope and certainty that the God you serve does not have you on the back burner. Whatever you see currently doesn’t mean that God’s word isn’t fact. Whatever you see does not mean that His promises are now null and void. Whatever you see doesn’t mean God is not good and isn't still working. Whatever you see, doesn’t mean that it won’t be well.

It WILL Be Well,

E
